Is Marijuana Legal in Oregon?

Yes, it is. Oregon was among the first states in the United States to accept both medical and recreational marijuana.

Well as you know, it is ok to grow cannabis in Oregon but the State has certain requirements that each individual must follow.

You’ll learn more about Oregon’s laws as you keep reading.

Who can buy and use marijuana in Oregon?

Summary of Oregon’s Measure 91;

Adult use and possession

  • Outside of the home, adults may possess up to an ounce of marijuana.
  • Adults may gift up to an ounce of marijuana, 16 ounces of marijuana products in solid form, or 72 ounces of marijuana products in liquid form to other individuals 21 and older. They cannot be compensated for these transactions.
  • At home, adults may possess up to eight ounces of marijuana and grow no more than four total marijuana plants.

Marijuana dispensaries

  • Individuals 21 and older will be allowed to purchase a quarter ounce of marijuana from participating medical marijuana dispensaries.
  • Once the retail shops created by Measure 91 are open, adults 21 and older will also be allowed to purchase up to an ounce of marijuana, 16 ounces of marijuana products in solid form, or 72 ounces of marijuana products in liquid form.
  • The Control, Regulation, and Taxation of Marijuana and Industrial Hemp Act set up four new marijuana businesses that will be regulated by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. “Marijuana producers” will cultivate marijuana for wholesale. “Marijuana processors” will produce marijuana extracts and products. “Marijuana wholesalers” are businesses that purchase marijuana and marijuana products to sell to marijuana retailers and other non-consumers.
  • Lastly, “Marijuana retailers” are allowed to sell marijuana and marijuana items to individuals 21 and older.
  • The Oregon Liquor Control Commission has primary oversight and regulatory authority over activities licensed by the Control, Regulation, and Taxation of Marijuana and Industrial Hemp Act. The liquor commission consults with the State Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Health Authority as necessary when drafting rules and regulations.

Controls and regulations

  • The law requires the liquor commission to enact regulations on the marijuana industry. They will include regulations governing the security, testing, labeling, and restricting advertising, similar to the rules in both Colorado and Washington.
  • The Control, Regulation, and Taxation of Marijuana and Industrial Hemp Act removed penalties for adults 21 and older who possess, use, and grow a limited amount of marijuana. It also directs the Oregon Liquor Commission to establish a system of strictly regulated and registered marijuana producers, wholesalers, processors, and retailers.

Marijuana taxation

The new law creates a 17% excise tax on the sale of marijuana and marijuana-infused products for adult use. Local governments may impose an additional local sales tax not to exceed 3%.

Municipalities

  • Municipalities may enact reasonable time, place, and manner zoning ordinances. A locality in which more than 45% of the electorate supported Measure 91 may prohibit marijuana businesses if the locality’s voters elect to do so via a ballot question asked during a statewide general election.
  • A locality in which 55% or more of the voters opposed Measure 91 may prohibit marijuana businesses via ordinance if the ordinance is enacted by December 27, 2015.

Growing Marijuana In Oregon

Is it hard to grow marijuana in Oregon?

Oregon’s climate is mostly outlandish; its summers are short, warm, dry, and mostly clear while the winters are very cold, wet, and overcast.

With all this going on, its climate is favorable for growing cannabis seeds.

Oregon’s landscape is also good for cannabis seed growing.

Here are a few aspects to consider when growing weed seeds in Oregon.

Differences between Indoor Vs. Outdoor Weed Growing in Oregon

For outdoor growing, your cannabis growing from seed will all depend on time; summer when the weather is good and between April and May when the winter is done.

Where you stay in Oregon also matters; in some areas you can start growing your cannabis seeds in mid-May and others in mid-April.

Therefore as an outdoor grower, you must know your local weather forecast— not to miss your window for planting.

For indoor growers, you can start planting your weed seeds anytime.

Indoor grow rooms

Indoor growing is a reliable system of growing marijuana seeds; in Oregon, it has been adopted in many homes.

Since it was among the first states in the US to accept legal cannabis, state-of-the-art equipment has been employed to have a controlled environment for cannabis seeds.

At the push of a button, the temperature and humidity levels, the water quantity required, and the grow lights are all regulated.

This kind of system commands quality products from the cannabis plant; it is expensive to acquire but once it is running, you won’t regret your choice.

Indoor-grown cannabis plants have higher THC and CBD content than outdoor plants.

Issues to Consider When Growing Marijuana Seeds in Oregon

When you are growing weed seeds in Oregon, remember to stay with the legal limits.

If you are on good terms with the law, you’ll have a few issues on your plate to deal with.

These issues may arise as you grow your cannabis seeds in Oregon; thieves, harsh weather, pests, and diseases.

If you live in Oregon and do not have safety measures for your cannabis garden, get them installed As Soon As Possible.

Thieves are lurking around looking to make easy money and when they come across your garden, they will not second guess.

So stay alert and be cautious of whom you let in on your marijuana pursuit.

Don’t take any chances; install security measures—for indoors; cameras and motion detectors, for the outdoors; high fences and motion-detector floodlights.

Indoors or outdoors, pests and diseases will devour your cannabis crop if you don’t have measures in play to keep them at bay.

The first is using pest and disease-resistant seed strains.

The other is applying organic pesticides and fungicides to your cannabis crop 2-3 times during its vegetative phase.

Keeping tabs on the local weather can also help to alert you when to plant your marijuana seeds; the best month or season.
